PIX QR Code

Código QR no padrão PIX que carrega os dados de um pagamento, como chave, valor e identificador, para ser lido pelo aplicativo do banco do pagador.

Key points

  • PIX QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode that carries the data of a PIX charge for reading by the bank app.
  • It encodes information such as the recipient's key, the amount, and an identifier, avoiding manual entry.
  • It exists in two main forms: static, reusable, and dynamic, generated for a specific charge.

What is the PIX QR Code?

PIX QR Code is the visual representation of a charge in the PIX standard, Brazil's instant payment system. Instead of typing in the key and amount, the payer points the bank app's camera at the code, which already carries all the necessary data. It is a way to initiate a payment quickly and with fewer errors.

How it works

The code carries, in a standardized way, the recipient's data and, when applicable, the amount and a transaction identifier. When the code is read, the bank app interprets this information and assembles the payment automatically, leaving the payer only to confirm. Since the standard is common to the entire system, a code generated by any institution can be read by any other's app.

There are two main types. The static QR Code is fixed and can be reused across multiple charges, sometimes without a set amount, which is useful for recurring or one-off receipts. The dynamic QR Code is generated for a specific charge, with its own amount and identifier, and tends to be used when each payment needs to be reconciled individually.

In flows that convert crypto into reais, the PIX QR Code usually appears at the final step. The amount that came from a stablecoin is settled via PIX, and the code is the practical way to direct that payment to the correct account. For the recipient, the experience is that of a regular PIX payment, even though the value originated from crypto.

The identifier present in the dynamic code is what allows each payment to be linked to a specific charge, making reconciliation easier.

Why it matters

Understanding the PIX QR Code helps clarify how payments are initiated and reconciled in Brazil, including when the value originates from crypto. For a freelancer or a business, the code is the practical bridge between the charge and receiving in reais, without requiring the payer to know any technical detail behind it.

Limitations

The PIX QR Code only carries the data of a charge; it does not by itself validate the identity of the recipient, which requires caution not to pay codes from dubious sources. Static codes without a set amount depend on the payer entering the correct amount. None of this constitutes a recommendation to transact, only a description of how it works.
